Im currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Hispanic Cultural Studies from the Department of Romance and Classical Studies here at Michigan State University. My research focuses on contemporary Latin America literature; of special interests are the representations of gender, violence, and power in the evolution from Mexican Revolution corridos [ballads] to narcocorridos [drug ballads].

I am originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico. In 1999, he moved to the United States. I received, both Bachelor’s and Masters degrees in Spanish Language and Literature with concentrations in Translation and Latin American Studies from Northern Illinois University, where I was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Award. I am also a teaching assistant of SPN 201 in the department of Romance and Classical Studies.
